The changes to last year’s rally of having a central location for camping instead of pitching tents in different places each night were well received, and we will continue to have a cental location with rides leaving out from there. This year’s location to another club member’s family farm in Lynchburg, Ohio. From here, we are able to offer some unique opportunities for riding and seeing the sights.
This is a camping rally, and the camping is PRIMITIVE! There is electric and water on the property in a centralized area, but we won’t have a bunch of extension cords and hoses running through the barn lot. Please plan accordingly. We will have an outdoor shower and a Porta-Potty to handle restroom needs. That being said, if sleeping on the ground is not for you, there are hotels in the area (15 mins) for alternative accommodations. We will provide a start time and routes each day. A ride will be led with gas stops, food stops and rest stops. Where you sleep and what you eat when we get done riding is on you. We will have a gas grill for anyone to use for cooking. We don’t have a lot of post ride activities planned at the farm because we like to use the evening to socialize and recover from the day. However, we are going to try to play a friendly game of wiffle ball on Friday night.
Included in the registration fee again this year that will be a rally shirt and a ticket to Saturdays Cincinnati Reds / Washington Nationals MLB game on Saturday afternoon.
A change to this year’s rally will be the option for shorter rides. While in the past, most ride days have been more than 120 miles, this year we are planning rides where the entire group will leave together and then split during the ride into long ride and short ride groups. The long ride group will continue out to get those miles and smiles while the short ride group will break off and take an alternate, shorter route back to camp perhaps making more stops on the way home to see local attractions. We understand that not everyone is up for 100+ mile rides, but keep in mind you might miss some of the scenic stops on the shorter rides.
As always, all scooterists and scooters are welcome, but please be sure your bike can reach and maintain 50-55 mph easily as we will be running some state highways and want everyone to be safe. If you have less than a 125cc engine, you may have trouble keeping up. It’s not a race but it’s also not a parade. This is about two things, safety and ride length. People in southern Ohio are notorious for running over anything that is not a car. We have Amish buggies being run over all year long. Not joking. If they can’t see an Amish buggy, they are not going to see you on your scooter so we need to be together as a group. Some of the rides can be long and we have to maintain a certain pace to finish the ride before dinner. We are truly not trying to exclude anyone. We just want to make this the best experience for everyone involved. If you have a slower scoot but still want to come camp, please do. There is nothing stopping you from enjoying the Sloopy’s camping experience and setting out on your own slower ride during the days.
Each day will bring new adventures and breathtaking rides. From exploring the scenic hills of southern Ohio to cruising through the charming hippie town of Yellow Springs, there’s something for everyone. And on the big day, we’ll ride to the Great American Ballpark to catch the Reds vs Nationals game!
Note that on some rides there may be additional costs for entry to parks or parking that you will be responsible for. While we are trying to keep these costs minimal, it’s hard to go to an MLB game and not have to pay for parking. Nothing should be more than $5-10/day. Day 1 has a $4 park entry fee at Serpent Mound and there is a parking fee for the baseball game of $6/space (Pair up for $3/each).
If primitive camping is not your style, there are some other choices available. Look for Bed & Breakfasts, VRBO, Airbnb, Hotels and Campgrounds near Lynchburg, OH. The farm is about 6 miles south of Lynchburg.

Campgrounds – Book early! If you haven’t tried to camp post COVID, know that reservations are hard to come by. There are three state parks within 30-40 minutes of the farm. State Park reservations are done at Ohio State Parks – Ohio State Parks Reservation System (reserveohio.com):
